Description:
Package of bills being considered: HB 1645, 1646, 1647. The
first bill (HB1645) would eliminate the 28 cent/gallon special
fuel tax on biodiesel used in student transportation programs.
2005 Legislative Session: The Clean Cities Coalition is currently
developing legislation and working with legislators in preparation
for the 2005 Legislative Session, which began on January 10,

Washington State Approves
Package of Bills to Promote Use of Biodiesel and Ethanol Fuels
House Bills 1240, 1241, 1242 and 1243.
The Washington State Legislature and the state's
Governor have approved passage of a package of bills designed
to promote in-state production and use of biodiesel and ethanol
fuels. Biodiesel is a clean-burning fuel made from domestic
renewable resources such as soybeans, oilseed crops, recycled
vegetable oil and restaurant grease which can be used in virtually
any diesel engine. Ethanol is also a renewable resource, produced
from domestic sources such as corn and waste bio mass.....

Study blames 20,000 deaths

WASHINGTON — Emissions from old diesel engines
cause more than 20,000 Americans a year to die sooner than
they would have otherwise, an environmental group estimated
Tuesday.An industry group criticized the findings as outdated
and misleading.The metropolitan areas with the highest number
of early deaths from diesel engines were New York, Los Angeles,
and Chicago, according to the Boston-based Clean Air Task
Force. The study included the surrounding suburbs, so New
York's estimated total of 2,729 deaths included parts of New
