Northwest Biodiesel Forum 20053rd Annual Northwest Biodiesel Forum: Growing Regional Economies and Cleaning Up the AirForum SummaryThe 2005 Northwest Biodiesel Forum was a great success. We had about 400 visitors, 12 exhibitors and vendors and many speakers. Thanks to everyone who volunteered to help and those who visited the forum. PhotographsHundreds of photos were taken at the event! Announcement Invitation Join the Northwest's top energy researchers, municipal fleet transportation managers, environmental agency experts, and concerned consumers at the 3rd Annual Northwest Biodiesel Forum on March 19, 2005 at the Phinney Neighborhood Center in Seattle. Get an up-close look at biodiesel – a cleaner-burning renewable fuel used in any diesel engine – and its immediate potential as a "breakthrough" domestically-produced energy resource. Presented By The Northwest Biodiesel Network -- a public group comprised of consumers, distributors, producers, and others interested in promoting biodiesel in the Northwest -- sponsors this annual event to educate the public and raise the visibility of biodiesel. This renewable fuel is an important component of the region's and nation's proactive programs to embrace the vision that Europe has already aggressively embraced -- a vision becoming reality as many governments mandate solutions to offset the effects of carbon-based emissions into the environment. What You'll Learn at the March 19 Event Technology Exhibits. See advances in technologies that allow consumers and entrepreneurs alike to process simple vegetable oil from canola, mustard seed and other crops (or even used restaurant oil) for energy use -- with demonstrations of how crushed oilseed crops produce virgin oil ready to process into biodiesel as a cleaner burning, renewable fuel for transportation, home heating oils, marine applications, etc. Panel Discussions. Experts including municipal fleet managers and the region's environmental agencies -- King County Metro, Washington State Ferries, and Puget Sound Clean Air Agency -- will speak on urgent economic, environmental and social issues driving the switch to cleaner burning fuels. Advocates for reducing global warming, weaning our society off fossil fuels, and establishing a regional market for domestically grown fuel sources -- including Climate Solutions and WSU's Climate Friendly Farming and Biofuels Programs -- will share how everyone can get involved to support our region's farmers to grow biodiesel feedstocks and advocate for legislators to create incentives to grow a regional biodiesel industry. About the Northwest Biodiesel Forum This year's event brings together the region's consumers seeking ways to empower themselves to combat the effects of global warming; municipal fleet managers interested in aggregating demand to prompt regionally produced biodiesel fuel feedstocks, and Northwest agricultural experts beginning to source biodiesel crops as a part of a paradigm shift to help our country establish domestic fuel supplies and reduce the use of fossil fuels. The Forum attracts all those inspired by the promise of the biodiesel story, which crosses both sides of our region's mountains. This new industry affects urban consumers driving diesel cars and trucks, municipal fleets seeking ways to reduce air pollution, and farmers and university researchers looking at healthy ways to farm oil feedstocks and begin marketing superior industrial crops to improve our air quality, power the machinery used to propagate the crops, and fill the needs of our municipal infrastructure systems charged with becoming more environmentally responsible.
