Seattle P.I.: Bakery To Convert To Biodiesel Fleet

Essential Baking Co., which makes organic breads and pastries, is replacing its delivery fleet so it can run 12 trucks entirely on biodiesel. The company will use B100, or pure biodiesel, a sustainable fuel most often made from vegetable oil. The fuel is supplied by Dr. Dan's Alternative Fuelwerks in Ballard.

Does anyone have the original, full-text story that includes their challenge with the van vendor on honoring the warranty when using biodiesel? I read it about 6 months ago, but can't find it now. Please email biodiesel@catojo.com.

Biodiesel Vehicles Page

We have a new page that has information on car models which are compatible with Biodiesel and some links to help you find them. Check out the Biodiesel Vehicles page (also available from the menu on the left). Thanks to Kevin Orme for getting this started.

Northwest Biodiesel Brochure

The communications committee has designed and published a double sided, single page brochure to hand out at events. This has basic information on biodiesel and a little bit about Northwest Biodiesel. You can find it on the Northwest Biodiesel Brochure page and linked from the top of the Upcoming Events page.

Seattle gets another B99 Pump

Laurelhurst Oil near University Village opened a cardlock pump which sells B99 produced by Seattle Biodiesel. Their location is:

LAURELHURST OIL CO, 4550 UNION BAY PL NE, SEATTLE, WA, 98105

Map: http://maps.google.com/maps?q=4550+Union+Bay+Place+NE,+seattle&hl=en

You can get applications for a fuel card next to the pumps which would entitle you to a discount. In July '05 they added 24/7 access with major credit cards -- no special card is required. This is Seattle's second B99 pump with 24-hour access (Dr Dan's was the first but membership is required).

Northwest Biodiesel's Aaron Kahn spoke at the May '05 opening along with a spokespeople from Senator Cantwell's office, Climate Solutions, University VW, Propel Fuels, and Laurelhurst Oil.

New Biodiesel Guidelines Released

The National Renewable Energy Lab has released the 2004 version of their “Biodiesel Handling and Use Guidelines.” The guide includes a frequently asked questions section, expanded biodiesel basic information, and the most currently available blending information.

See NREL's guidelines at http://www.nrel.gov/vehiclesandfuels/npbf/feature_guidelines.html

Federal Tax Incentive Forms Published, B100 Excluded

The IRS has published the first in a series of registration and claim forms associated with the new federal biodiesel tax incentive, but their interpretation of “blend” is frustrating biodiesel advocates. About 70 biodiesel manufacturers and distributors have urged the IRS to broaden their interpretation of the term, and allow B100 to qualify for the Excise Tax Credit.

See the story at http://www.newrules.org/de/archives/000044.html

See the broad coalition of signatories urging the IRS to include B100 as a "blend" that qualifies for the tax credit http://www.newrules.org/de/021405irsletter.pdf.
